“Well if you don’t have a tie-rod end I’ll take a packet of cable-ties” was MTE team-member Alan’s reply to the astonished sales assistant at the spare parts counter. It was Saturday afternoon and Defender 3 had snapped the tie-rod end climbing rock ledges on a passenger trip to one of our favourite destinations near Bairnsdale. After four temporary repairs with fencing wire we had got all Defenders to the top of the climb, but the cable-ties did the job for the rest of our journey back to Morwell. Just another day at work I s’pose!
